Lyndee Janowiak was
an active member of the Manistee Ski Club (MSC) for
ten years. From ages 5 through 14, Lyndee trained
and competed with the MSC. During those years,
Lyndee was coached by many of the MSC coaches
including her father, Dan Janowiak. Lyndee
claims that the quality of the programming and the
personal interest the MSC staff had for her helped
her tremendously to achieve so much at a young
age.
From ages 4 through 8 Lyndee was ranked annually in
the top ten of NASTAR'S national rankings in her
respective age group. Lyndee also competed in many
of the popular Tecnica Cup events. By age 9, Lyndee
not only won within her age group, but was the
fastest racer in any age group at the Tecnica Cup.
At age 10, Lyndee began racing in the MSC CUSSA
Program.

For the next five years, (ages 10-15), Lyndee
continued to represent the MSC. During that period,
she qualified for the Rocky/Central Junior Olympics
five times. She won four Junior Olympic titles,
including two overall titles. Twice she qualified
to represent the United States at North America's
largest international children's race at the
Whistler Cup in British Columbia. At age 15, Lyndee
was just one of three girls to represent the United
States at the Trofeo Topolino Events in Pinzolo,
Italy. The Topolino event is the world's most
prestigious children's race. During this period of
time the MSC became recognized around the
world.
When Lyndee was 15, she sustained a serious knee
injury toward the end of the ski season. Lyndee,
however, turned what could have been a huge setback
in her ski race career into something very
positive.
During the eight months that followed the injury,
Lyndee rehabbed and conditioned hard. She returned
to the mountain in the early fall healthy and with
renewed focus to achieve her goals.
For two seasons Lyndee was a member of the Quantum
Sports Club in Breckenridge, Colorado. While with
QSC, Lyndee obtained valuable competition
opportunities throughout Europe. During those
seasons she had 26 starts in Europe. It is
important to note that Lyndee's competition is
still a little bit age based, but mostly the
competition is against women of all ages
worldwide.

In 2004, Lyndee was
the reigning USSA J2 National Giant Slalom
Champion. This is the title she earned at the USSA
J2 National Championships in Lake Placid. Later
that year, Lyndee enrolled with the Park City Ski
Education Foundation (The Park City Ski Team), in
Park City, Utah. By making the move to the Park
City Ski Team, Lyndee felt she'd be able to
maximize her potential. During her two seasons with
the Park City Ski Team, Lyndee's primary forum for
competition was the NorAm circuit in Canada and the
United States. The NorAm circuit is North
Americas most elite level of alpine
racing.
With roots at Michigan's Crystal Mountain, Lyndee
in her early years excelled in alpine racings
technical events, slalom and giant slalom. To this
day these events may be Janowiaks best
events. Although, the speed events, downhill and
super-g have perhaps become Janowiaks
favorite. This past season Janowiak established
herself as one of the countrys best four
event juniors and as a result, was named to the
U.S. Ski Team's Development Team this past
summer!

Janowiak began on-snow training with the U.S. Ski
Team in Mammoth Mountain, California in mid-May.
This was followed by a conditioning camp and
medical testing at the Olympic Training Center in
San Diego, California, and then three months of
conditioning in Park City. In July, Janowiak and
the Team did more on-snow training at Mt. Hood, OR,
before heading onto Chile in August and Austria in
September.
From the U.S. Ski Teams Development Team,
Lyndee will then progress to the C
Team, the B-Team and eventually
the A-Team. (The racers you see
representing the United States during the Olympics
typically come from either the A or B teams,
depending on their performance leading up to the
Olympics.)
Janowiaks first competition representing the
United States as a U.S. Ski Team member was the
last weekend of November in Winter Park, CO, with
the NorAm Opener. Click
